Maybe I had the Leafs all wrong. Maybe I actually do like them but the arrogance of some of their fans just ruined it for me. The thought of being associated with them made me detest the Leafs by mere connection. This came especially apparent not by a Leaf game, but by the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup victory Monday night. Most Leaf fans gave a respectful nod to the victorious team, or said nothing at all. However, one decided to post as their Facebook status: "Huuuge karma for Leafs fans". Seriously?
This is one of those Leafs fans who really shouldn't have said anything. Instead of respectfully congratulating Chicago on their win, this person decided to make it all about the Leafs. I read it and was thinking: "Yeah, the Hawks won the cup for Leaf fans". I realize not all Leaf fans are like that, but some of you really need to get off the pedestals you built for yourselves. I didn't say "Huuuge karma for Habs fans" when the Pens eliminated the Sens, because the Pens didn't do it for us. They did it for the Cup.
It's not like Wild fans would say the same thing if Boston won. It's most likely because Minnesota doesn't care as much about hockey and therefore will never their noses that high in the air. Not even Red Wings fans are that intolerable, Kristen Bell wouldn't be screaming "Red Wings fans are avenged!" if Boston won (BTW she is a huge Red Wings fan).
So, to all those Leaf fans who thought the Leafs were done justice somehow by the Hawks winning the Stanley Cup over against the team that eliminated them, check yourselves. The Leafs aren't the centre of the hockey universe, as much as you all want them to be.
